He was ignored -- so he has to register and live as a "transcient." This is for an offence 30 years ago.

My sad opinion is that total number of children of registered sex offenders are being hurt more than the number of children victimized by stangers. A child is a child, and a hurt is a hurt.

Is my child less important than yours??Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5651032.post-70228048821414095422008-07-09T14:27:00.000-07:002008-07-09T14:27:00.000-07:00Thank you for you kind words. Actually the person ...Thank you for you kind words. Actually the person killed was my 12 year old grandson Chris who was murdered in 2002. If you read what Chris went through you too would call his killers monsters. By the way in 1984 my sister who was also was killed in South Carolina by repeat offenders. Still I have for many years been uncomfortable with the three strikes laws.
Perhaps I was not as clear as I might have been about sex offenders.
I suppose sex offenders and our outlook about them suffers from the Law and Order effect, just as DNA and other forensic sciences suffer from the CSI effect.
Also the press has such a field day with the juicy sexual murder cases keeping them in the public eye for long periods of time just as the Lunsford case which was everywhere for weeks and even months. The Lunsford case did point out that many times these cases are directly about criminals avoiding registering. Then they are like ghosts able to go about their nefarious ways doing what they want. I did like your comment about GPSing them for a few years.
Actually I didn't know the recidivism was lower with sexual abusers than with other types of criminals. Although I do not question what you say I will certainly be investigating that statistic for my own edification.

Thank you for the thought provoking blog.

I am a grandmother (now you know I am a she) who is trying to make a difference by helping to stop child abuse. One of my projects is trying to get an amendment to California's (and eventually other state's) Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting act to include apartment managers.

Pat Dazis
Charlotte N.C.t2sisterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04196666973478868206noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5651032.post-19085348302711381972008-07-09T11:57:00.000-07:002008-07-09T11:57:00.000-07:00Dennis, I emailed you yesterday, twice, did you ge...Dennis, I emailed you yesterday, twice, did you get it??
